Our Mission

Little Beaks is a sanctuary for small able and special needs pet birds. Having started some 10 years ago as a single backyard aviary taking in needy budgies found on online marketplaces, and from people who contacted an ad we placed, we have grown both physically and functionally.

A few points about us:

- The sanctuary consists of 4 aviaries: canaries, finches, parrots, and special needs.

- One of the reasons we exist is to help those birds who need it most who've come from bad situations or who have been surrendered needing vet help. Some, particularly budgies who have not received the vet attention they need, spend only a short time with us as they have been left for too long. We provide care and comfort in their final days, and as much treatment as possible. Every bird deserves to know love.

- We DO NOT breed; the aviaries have no nest boxes or nesting areas. We occasionally get baby finches, because they're a bit unstoppable and seem to be able to nest anywhere.

- While many of the birds here are from loving families who had to rehome for various reasons, many others are from situations where they've been neglected, abused and/or otherwise mistreated.

- Our aim is to give birds as natural a home as possible, close to what they'd get in the wild

- We advocate for bird welfare and are working for legislative change, closely alongside Little Rescue and Happy Hollow Sanctuary.

- We do not adopt out birds. Many have been surrendered only with the knowledge they will stay here.

- We are largely self-funded, with some contributions from wonderful people who want to help out - two of our aviaries are thanks to these people. If you're interested in contributing to our work, please message.

- We are happy to help with any questions, however we are not avian vets or qualified carers. If you have concerns regarding your bird's health, please seek vet advice.
